Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving. - Colossians 4:2 NKJV
Jesus was asked about prayer and He teaches us that prayer should be the lifeline of every believer. In Matthew 6, we find the model prayer which teaches us that we have a Father in heaven who cares about every aspect of our lives here on earth. In John 17, we have the Lord’s prayer, where Jesus is praying for the present followers and the future followers of Christ, the Church. Paul tells us in the letter to Thessalonians “pray continually” in all things. Paul also tells us in Ephesians 3:20-21, “Now to Him who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us—to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.”
With this in mind, Elim Baptist Church believes that prayer is vital for doing every ministry and every program at our church. Prayer is an essential part of all that is attempted and accomplished. Lifting up the special needs of our families, friends, and those in the community is also an important part of Elim's ministries. Jesus tells us to love our neighbor as ourselves. Prayer is one way that we can love others. It encourages people to ask for prayer when they sense that God's help and the encouragement of other Christians are needed to meet specified needs in their lives.
